Multistatic RFID interrogation & localization with Cosmos/Orbit

WINLAB Summer Internship 2024
Group Members: Dimitrios Angelou
Advisor: Aggelos Bletsas

Project Objective

Implement a multistatic RFID tag localization technique on the Orbit testbed, emphasizing asynchronous operation between transmitters and receivers. This Proof of Concept (PoC) will aim to demonstrate the increased range and effectiveness of multistatic topologies compared to traditional monostatic systems. The goal is to showcase how multistatic configurations can enable lower-cost and more straightforward deployment, highlighting their potential for improved scalability and flexibility in real-world applications.

Weekly Progress

WEEK TWO
  1. Implemented an SSH tunneling technique and a VPN solution for connecting to USPR's directly from host computer to the nodes. The results were conclusive that the latency introduced makes the feat unfeasable.
WEEK THREE

[Week 3 Presentation]

  1. Created a family of scripts that enables quicker deployment on nodes.
  2. Transmitted RFID Gen2 queries utilizing an ESP32 microcontroller in conjunction with an RF69HW radio module.
  3. Successfully captured and detected the reflected signals from the RFID tag in real-time using a USRP N210 node deployed on the grid.
  4. Advanced in real-time isolation of the RN16 preamble, aiming to generate a valid ACK signal to confirm the presence of the RFID tag.
