Introduction

The goal of this project is to develop a tool that will allow us to simulate a distributed smart grid - an emerging modern electrical grid that incorporates technology to gather and use information about the elements in the grid to improve efficiency and reliability.

To achieve this we hope to create a library to extend the functionality of Mathworks's Simulink, a well known software for modeling systems. This library would allow the study of a smart grid under non-ideal conditions through the safety of a simulation. The distribution of the elements would allow us to study the communication between these simulated elements - one of the most important features of the smart grid - using a resource like ORBIT.

Objectives

  • Develop a library to simulate power elements over different processors
  • Implement this library of blocks in C using Simulink and other software
  • Test this library using ORBIT
