Hi Haris and Fehmi,
              Thank you both very much for the suggestions. I finally got it working. I was not giving the nodes enough time to boot before trying again.

These were the keys:
   1) "No route to host" appears when nodes are off.
   2) It takes a while to boot up the node and during that period there is
"no route to host"
