Thanks a ton, it is working now. I was/am using the following script file 
"noisetrial"
#!/bin/bash
wget http://instrument1.orbit-lab.org:5012/interference/initialize
wget http://instrument1.orbit-lab.org:5012/interference/awgn?bandwidth=20
wget 
http://instrument1.orbit-lab.org:5012/interference/set?power=$1&channel=36
wget http://instrument1.orbit-lab.org:5012/interference/start
wget http://instrument1.orbit-lab.org:5012/interference/status

and i use ./noisetrial -20 in the console to execute the script.
Its working now, but why it didn't is still a mystery
