Just some points here quickly. The article, although it makes mention
to Linux, is actually heavily OpenBSD based. There is a lot of work
underway with Linux wireless under the wireless-dev brach on
kernel.org and I suspect users are just not aware of such work. Also a
lot of the problems are addressed well but in no way does it make
mention to efforts on the Linux front to resolve these nor does it
discuss how sometimes Theo's tactics can actually result in more
negative effects than positive on their efforts

At best, this article should have been called:

"The battle for wireless network drivers on OpenBSD"

as it in no way reflects the real overall efforts on all FOSS
platforms in the battle for wireless network drivers.
