The behavior you find rude has been requested by many users as they
find it to be very helpful to achieve repeatable results. Freshly
loading the driver before every experiment puts it into a 'almost'
known state.

The nodehandler abstractions of the wireless interfaces is there to
make life (hopefully) easier for those who do not want to dive in the
arcane world of 'iwconfig', 'ifconfig', 'modprobe'. But with any
conveninece wrapper, it sometimes gets in the way.

If you rather want to operate on the bare metal, we don't prevent you,
we leave the light on for you. But as always when operating heavy and
complicated machinery, you better know what you are doing.
